Hi all. Off to read last week's latest posts.
Hallo to each and everyone!
Expecting rain here all week with temps in the mid to upper 40s F but thank goodness 'tis rain and not snow!
Just a quick in and out today and a link to more Illinois Birder Forum photos. Someone has posted great photos of a gorgeous Snowy Owl seen in eastern Wisconsin, actually, and check out the size of those feet!

Toodle ooh for now!
Evening/morning all: Busy day. My whale shift lasted only 40 minutes before the wind went up to 5 on the Beaufort scale (was 3 when I started!). However, did spot a whale and several blows a ways out and although we know they were northbound (and therefore probably gray) whales, we couldn't count how many because of the chop and at that point had to abandon the count for the day. Made quick trip to daughter's and drove back through hills as green as any Ireland has on offer, but the wind was wild. Oh, walked Oro of course, who was bounding about and full of beans.
Margobird: Ooh. Trip to Question Time sounds like fun. They show excerpts here now and then, just to show how much flack the UK Prime Minister takes compared to our lot. Presenters all end up looking a bit bemused by all the back and forth - "jolly old England" again. Behave if you must but, like AQ, I'll be watching for news of provocateurs (don't forget to burn your bra).
Gary: Is that sign for the neighbor's dogs on your counter top? It looks just like ours.
Alan: That Norfolk cam is superb; wonder what the technical specs are. I'm not an awards person either, but watch the "finals" of several things, including the Oscars and Wimbledon.
AQ; Wow. Three different railway gauges and only resolved in 1995. Amazing.
Hallo everyone else. Going to troll for some rubbish on telly while I resume sorting through magazines for recipes and garden tips.
Hi, all.
Interesting news about Beatrice.
Auntie: Thanks so very much for the article on the wind farms/bird risk study. I need to look into that issue so I know where I stand. Wind energy is just beginning to be widely used in the U.S. We desperately need alternative energy sources, but I think they must be made safe for birds and wildlife. Caerann: Oh, my stars, that owl is a sight to behold! Wonderful! Margobird: Don't throw your shoe at anyone at the question time! LOL I turn the air blue at least once a day shouting at the politicians on the tele. Annette: Sorry the whale watch was cancelled. If the tile in Gary's photo is like your counter top, it's very beautiful. You have good taste (and so does Gary). AQ: Thanks for more history! Alan: King Hamish is so beautiful! Just melts my heart.
Good Tuesday everyone!
Hey Diane: Howzit going back there? We have fierce winds here tonight; very unusual. Have had Out of Africa on while I've been sorting through stuff; love those aerial scenes where they fly over the animals and birds... Anyway, tomorrow a friend of mine is taking the train up from LA to have lunch and a couple of hours puttering around SB before catching the train back. It's a lovely ride once you're out of the city. Take care all, off to bed to listen to the wind.....
Hey, Annette: Better put on your red shoes (Wizard of Oz reference ;-)
I like those shots from Out of Africa, too. I'm crazy about those PBS specials, Visions of..., that show such brilliant aerial photography of beautiful landscapes, taken with helicopter-mounted cameras. I loved Visions of Ireland and Visions of Scotland.
Have a wonderful time with your friend. I also love trains. When I hit the lottery or inherit money, I'm going to take a train trip across country. I have railroad hats that I wear when I'm working outside. :-) Have been known to sing Woody Guthrie and Jimmie Rodgers songs while pulling weeds. LOL
Hello – Tuesday. Didn’t say much yesterday, but have been reading, seeing photos and looking up links. Seem to be going through a good phase with health, so able to do more, inspired by better weather, and less time on computer.
Overnight friends – thanks for the past two nights interesting posts – report on Oscars, SA history (transport especially interesting), herons, aborted whale count, unusual wind (!),
Renewable energies debate – lots of stuff on various environmental sites – difficult balance between overall effect of burning fossil fuels and potential harm caused by new fuel technologies. We have active debate here on plans for a possible barrage across the Upper Solway for tidal power and its effect on marshland habitat.
Alan – thanks for picture of one very smart dog sporting his new spring fashion.
Margobird – hope you have a great day up in London – watch for uneven pavements – keep safe!
Gary – good to see you back! And Heron – sorry you had router trouble.
OH off to dentist this morning, then we have dietician this afternoon – it’s one of those weeks, also have rheumatology appointment Thursday.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Surprised no LG blog update Monday. Son reports a gradual thaw on Speyside.
Morning OG:
I was also surprised there was no blog yesterday. I guess they are preparing for the new season and the new power supply.
Warsaw , Poland peregrines have an egg now:

Good morning patriciat, picture of Hamish was there yesterday but only briefly. I managed to save it before it disappeared. Seems like something is eating all the photographs at the moment.

Good morning Heron77. I don't get on-line much over the weekendsand spend Monday morning catching up as I don't want to miss any interesting links and web cams. Goodness knows how I am going to find time to look at the webcams I now have saved to favourites as well as watchng our ospreys when they return.
Have a good day.
