Weekly Chat, Sunday, February 28, 2010

Evening all. Wonderful rainbow over Santa Barbara this afternoon; more like April with heavy showers then sunshine.  Don't forget to check last week's chat for Tiger's link to the Roy Dennis site about a French osprey that's already completed its migration, and Patriciat's recommendations for places to eat in Grantown (for when we all go to visit OG's son!).   :-)

  • Thanks HeatherB I am over the moon and can't stop smiling at the moment.  Hope your broadband keeps away from meltdown for you.

  • Margobird: Wonderful news!!! I'm drinking my morning spiced tea; raising my cup in CHEERS to you!!!

  • Cheers to you Diane words cannot describe how relieved and happy I am with the good news.  Have a good day.

  • Tiger: Wow. "A total eclipse of the sun." It wasn't you who "flew your Learjet down to Acapulco" for that was it? Just being very silly. There's been a lot of speculation here this last week about the subject of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" hit - she's just released a version where she whispers a name at the start of the song. (You're not David are you??).  Seriously, those lagoons up the peninsula are where "our" whales spend the winter.  I crossed the border by train at El Paso back in '03 years back and was horrified by the poverty and immediately sympathetic to anyone who wanted to sneak across the border to work here. You have to travel farther south to realize that all Mexico isn't steeped in poverty, that there are cities and people who work in offices, etc., all day, and have nice homes.  However, travel to Mexico, especially the border towns, has dropped dramatically of late due to the increase in murders (in public places) committed by the drug gangs.

Cirrus: Good to see you. Tesco's Tarte au Citrus, eh?  Sounds wonderfully refreshing. My lift today is anticipating Margobird's "good" news, which I got a hint of when I logged onto the site!

Alan: What shopping missions are these that cause a sigh? OH and I went on joint shopping mission to buy French doors yesterday, but I prefer to leave him at home when I'm out puttering in the stores. Hope Hamish is having a good day.

Margobird: Wonderful, wonderful news. I'm SO happy for you. Hurray!! That has indeed made my own day even sunnier. Just brilliant!!  My own "toast" will be literal (whole wheat)  washed down with coffee.  My advice for the evening: Go to bed and drink bubbly, then you won't fall over.

Hallo to everyone else - off to start the day.

  • Margobird, I am so extremely happy for your excellent news :)))))))

  • Margobird - Hooray - so pleased for you!  Do you get another dinner out to celebrate?

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • So glad for you Margobird now you will be able to live life to the full. Went out this morning to change my library books and after coming out of the library it was that a nice morning  I decided to take a trip up to Vane Farm and while sitting having a scone and cup of tea watched two Sea Eagles soaring in the sky and then saw one of them come back to sit in a tree on the edge of the loch. The warden there hopes that the two eagles will make the loch their base but as they are still only juveniles only time will tell.

  • Georgeg : It must have been great to see the two Sea Eagles and also pleased that the weather is good in Fife.

Just took this screenshot of peregrine at Derby Cathedral. I always seem to miss them but captured this one:

  • Oh dear, don’t know where to begin after my various short messages which didn’t reply to anything!   You see, we now have that long-awaited season called SPRING, so after a trip to the chiropodist yesterday afternoon, I spent an hour in the greenhouse and OH in the garden.  At this stage it is mainly tidying up which should have been done in the autumn, but it’s good to see some fuchsias and geraniums have survived the winter!

Going back to page 9 and see what arises – although I think it will come out a bit of a mish-mash.  Seem to have started something with the gingerbread – which by the way is very good!  Alicat – lovely shot of the owlet – how they grow!!  George – I stopped baking for just the two of us when Son finally left home, but decided to make better use of the freezer – OH was buying cake anyway, and home-baking is so much better.  I hope it is still sunny with you – it’s been really good here again.  Alan – enjoyed the picture of Vergine on her nest yesterday – lovely expression on her face!  Tiger – read the Ireland Eagle report – makes me angry and sad that people can abuse birds and animals so.  Annette, Dibnlib, Terry, Sue C, AQ – hi there for Wed 3rd March – suspect it was the 4th for AQ!

This has been revisited all day between other things, so I think I need to wrap it up as a first instalment and post another later to cover the many posts since Wednesday midnight (blog time!)!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Alan: I'm now inspired to go off on a shopping mission of my own, w/out OH. These birds know they're being watched, I think, for the look in their eyes.  Take care all.
