Chat Extravaganza Sunday Feb 21st

Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother!  Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????

So to pick up from the last of our thread:

Annette:  Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.

Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!

  • Morning All,  Dry here at the moment but more rain forecast. Yesterday the rain caused road flooding as drains and ditches were overflowing and the water was just pouring off the fields, as they are already saturated. I went to the supermarket when I thought the rain was lighter only to find that they were not letting people enter the carpark as it was a deep lake !  I see some of you are forecast snow, so do take care. Winter is holding on.

Annette, fantastic that you saw 9 whales. I would love to have been there.

Linda, If I am not on here again today, have a great holiday and I hope you have recovered from your bug.

I also hope all those not feeling 100%, are feeling better this morning.

Hope you all have a happy and enjoyable day.

  • Well, the half packed suitcases are in the hall, waiting for me to stuff the last of the bits in. A mournful Dog sits nearby, as although we reckon he's not very bright, he does know what the cases mean. We were hoping for him to spend his hols with little puppy Meg, but after a couple of meetings, it was plain that as she is so young, it is too soon for them to be 'friends' yet   (she runs around underneath him, as if he's her mother, looking for the milk!!)  So its off to our local kennels, where they love him to bits.

Went to  bed early last night in spite of lots of things not crossed off the list yet, so as to gather strength for today- dreamt about packing the cases then...  Feel a bit better, but not 100%, am hoping to feel ok on the morrow, when we have to rise early to go.  Husband is still coughing from his cold, so we are a pair who need a bit of a break.  Our Firstborn is taking us to airport, I asked him to take us rather than fetch us back on return as although he is now in his mid 30's he still drives like a boy racer, so its not exactly relaxing. Once when he picked us up on return, I nearly needed to lie down in a darkened room to recover when we got home!!

Hope all of you who are not feeling so good, recover soon, and that the sun comes out for you. At least when I return I will be nearer to counting the days rather than the weeks until our beloved Ospreys reappear.

Take Care, All, & many thanks for your good wishes.

  • Sat up with hot drinks from 3 to 4 am to try to clear head and chest – still grotty this morning.  Sunny again – minus 2 has gone up to zero.  We were thrilled when we had a Song Thrush here a few days ago – this morning we have two!!

Annette – so pleased for you (and tem) that you saw Whales today.  What will happen to the one going the “wrong way” – will it get there in time to come back – and will it be weak with having less time to feed up?  I’m sure you and your OH will have enjoyed the show last night.  I have to wash my hair every morning when I shower because the head gear for my CPAP machine pushes it all over the place – especially if I am thrashing about feeling uncomfortable.  I should believe that I am lucky to have thick and fast-growing hair, but if it gets past 5 weeks without a trim it seems to go wild!

Diane – thanks for sending the healing energy – sorry I am sounding sorry for myself, but I know I could be worse – just not very nice to know at present!

Good morning, BrendaH – sorry about the flooding – did you mange to get any shopping – after all, people do need to eat!?

Lindybird – in case I don’t come on later, or you shut down for an early night ready to go tomorrow, have a great time – I hope you will both feel well enough to enjoy your holiday and have a good relaxing and refreshing break!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Looks like Pine Marten on Abernethy feeder right now!

  • OG,  so sorry you are still feeling so grotty and you are losing sleep. Most people I know, who have had any infections this winter, all complain of  how long it takes them to feel 100% again and most seem to be left with a cough for some time. As for my shopping yesterday, we are fine. This winter has been so unusual that I keep topping up the freezer and cupboards, just in case we had more heavy snow and all the problems that can cause, but have to admit I hadn't thought of  flooding closing the supermarket.

Linda,  I reall hope you both feel well before you start your holiday. I used to feel quite upset how our dog would gladly trot off with the kennel girls, although I was happy he seemed glad to see them and they would look affter him, but we always got a lovely welcome when we went to pick him up on our return.

  • Good morning original goldfinch so sorry you are feeling so grfotty.  This particular virus seems to be a really bad one.  Two weeks on and I still feel as though I have not recovered properly but you probably don't want to know that, sorry.  Just take it easy, lots of hot drinks and keep warm although with the weather that is hard to do at the moment.  Hope you feel a bit better soon.

  • Morning Lindybird I am probably too late but enjoy your holiday and hope it does you both a world of good.  As you say it will be ever nearer osprey time when you come back.

  • Thanks you Diane for sending healing energy  to us.  It is a slow process but I am getting there.  Just not doing too much and importantly keeping warm.  Weather here has been so miserable for the past few days, rain, sleet, hail and lastly it was snowing just now.  Can't wait for Spring.  Take care and look after yourself.

  • Annette what a wondeful sight that must have been, 9 whales.  Hope you were wrapped up warm and have managed to sort out the tangles haystack.  Hope you enjoyed the Chieftans.
