Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother! Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????
So to pick up from the last of our thread:
Annette: Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.
Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!
What can I say about Saturday – early sun, now cloudy and breezy. Birds upset because garage door was replaced this morning – a bit too close to “their” deck! Now OH is out there “tidying up” (means playing with the remote control!). Son phoned 75 miles into his journey north – he had set off after all! Still having trouble viewing pictures – but very inconsistent.
Annette – hope you enjoyed Friday night’s concert, and without a wet journey home.
AQ – hope you get to enjoy some time with the Grand-Kids, not just providing computers, veggie food and woolly jumpers! One of our G-Ss is veggie, and I think older of the G-Ds will be when she leaves home.
BrendaH – I think G-Kids are ok, but mostly glad mine are at a distance! When we retired, Dau#1 assumed we would move nearer, and we were adamant we would keep our distance – having seen how much Son has done as minder and driver while he lived with them, I know we were right!
Cirrus – hope you enjoyed your hiking today, without too much wind and rain.
Margobird – enjoy your meal out this evening!
Auntie – enjoy ypu positive temperature while it lasts!
Diane – good to see you again – take care.
Everybody – thanks for all recent pictures and links – will look at pix when they show (some have just started appearing!), and follow links as time allows.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Good afternoon all just caught up with the latest news' here we had about 50mm of snow during the night but it is starting to thaw now which means another lot of water but I am lucky as the land slopes away from where I live. Alan the Dundee Raith Rovers game has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Went on shopping trip this morning as it was the farmers market day and I fancied a smoked trout for my tea and the fish man from Arbroath comes to the market and smokes the fish on site most people buy the smokies but I like the trout. Had a short time with the big yellow thing in the sky but it is overcast again. Been getting more blackbirds and goldfinches on the feeders during the past days so they seem to be getting ready for the breeding season which hopefully is just around the corner. OG hope your son makes it safely to Grantown as the A9 still has problems.

George - thanks - I thought he was waiting till Sunday, as he doesn't need to be there till Monday for work, and is staying the first couple of nights with friends in Carrbridge - but I think he wanted to be there to go to church Sunday morning. He has said he will phone when he arrives - he was somewhere in Northumberland when he phoned this morning and was going via A1, A720, Forth Bridge, A90, A9. We too have extra Goldfinches around, and still many blackbirds. Our Annan Farmers' Market is closed Jan, Feb, March - it was new last summer, and I think they were unsure of winter trade.
GeorgeG : Thanks for the inside info on the Dundee v Raith game. I thought it probably would be postponed when I saw the weather forecast for your area. I agree with you about trout. I much prefer it to Smokies.
We also had the big yellow thing in the sky for an hour os so but now things are back to normal and it is raining.
ChloeB : I will have to try Pizza Express in Stamford. Sounds like a nice view from there.
Morning all: Pouring rain all night. Better than an 8-point earthquake I say! For anyone who's interested, here's a fascinating link from the West Coast/Alaska Tsumani Warning Center that includes graphics of tsumani "Travel Times" for the entire Pacific Basin. Fascinating. We're under an advisory here, which is just an "FYI," as opposed to an actual warning http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/
Concert last night was lovely - but I was seriously distracted by the fabulous dress Ms. Chang wore: A figure-fitting horizontally striped outfit of black and taupe alternating with glitterng bands of sequins that shone gold, green, and blue. The dress flounced out at the knees and every time she moved we were treated to a dazzlling show of light. She played Schuman and Franck; audience consisted of retirement-age folks and students. It was nice to be among so many enthusiastic and appreciative young people.
Brenda: Truly, grandchildren are Wonderful - rejuvenating, funny - they take years off you; it's like rediscovering the world again but with the wisdom to appreciate what you're seeing. Marvellous. So don't fret. As I said to a friend years ago when my grandkids were very young: "When was the last time anyone stood up and cheered when you walked into a room?" But it is bitter-sweet to see them grow up and have to come to terms with life and everything it throws at us.
Auntie: In your bikini today I guess with temps at a toasty 2C?
Diane: You are so good about sending energy to us all; don't forget to save some for yourself! :-)
Tiger: Marvellous photos of Pale Male; what a magnificent creature. As ChloeB said: Those red tails stand out so - re the photo taken from behind I initially thought that Pale Male was sitting on a pot of marmalade or honey the tail was so bright. Incidentally, someone was killed in Central Park yesterday morning when a snow-laden branch fell on him. Out for a walk and then....
Alan: Thanks so much for all these "alerts" you give us re eggs, blogs, etc. Hope it stops raining. Geez. Sounds like you guys have had a winter for the record books.
OG: Son is determined; good for him. Rain started within 10 minutes of arriving home from concert.
Hallo again Cirrus (enjoy the hike) and Margobird (enjoy your Chinese dinner) and Djoan (stay dry), and George: Hmm. Trout for dinner sounds good. We've got Alaskan cod tonight.
Should get moving. Take care all.
Annette You mentioning that person killed in Central Park reminds me of the woman killed as a result of the Potters Bar rail crash. She only went out once a week and just happened to be walking under the bridge when the train crashed causing concrete to fall and kill her. She was an auntie of my brother in law. Very unusual things do happen.
Tiger Signature
Son arrived at his friends' home in Carrbridge at 5pm - having even called in at the estate agent in Aviemore to pay some more money! So we now have one offspring on the Black Isle and one on Speyside - not bad for bird-watching!!
Tiger: Indeed; I t hink the randomness of it all is what got me over (sort of) my fear of flying.
OG: Good that son has arrived safely. We now have g-daughter en route back from Utah to Arizona after attending Significant Other's grandmother's funeral. But SO is with her this time, so we aren't worried about her being stranded solo anywhere.
DD and DL's first egg
...and one of them sitting on the ledge overlooking Bay Bridge this morning. What a view!
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
Thanks Chloe. What a view indeed.
Latest from Dunedin ospreys nesting notes. Looks like we only have 2 chicks now:
2/27/10 - It seems that only two chicks survived the recent cold weather. Both of themseem very strong and health. SJ
