Chat Extravaganza Sunday Feb 21st

Here I am, awaiting the snow machine to crank up again Sunday afternoon. Expecting 8 to 12 inches new snow on top of 3 or 4 we still have from last storm. Oh bother!  Can you tell I'm not very enthused?????

So to pick up from the last of our thread:

Annette:  Do tell us how the Pale Male movie was, please.

Some fascinating new news on the Peregrine Falcon front from Derby Cathedral (it's snowing there as I watch at 11:15 p.m. Chicago time) where they've finally let us in on the secret hinted at in the blog from last month.

I believe I'm off for the night now. Happy Sunday to all!

  • Hi, all. Sorry I haven't posted. Have been really busy. You good and kind people don't want to hear from me, anyway. I'm angry at my arrogant, uncaring, loony brother. Angry at my arrogant, uncaring, loony doctor. Angry at my arrogant, uncaring, loony government.  I just wanna be a bird and fly above it all. ;-)))

Everyone in Scotland where the big snow fell: I hope you're safe and warm tonight. Also, I hope Gary is okay; the U.S. upper East Coast is being pounded by a "hurricane snow storm".

I think that DjoanS (apologies if I'm wrong) had already reported that the Barn Owl Trust webcams have been turned on. Right now, a large owl is asleep next to the nestbox. http://www.wildlifetv.co.uk/barnowlcam.html  Also, the nestbox looks lived in already, and there's a food cache in the corner. http://www.thewebbroadcastingcorporation.com/barnowlcam_nestcam.html For new people, the owl nest cam diary for 2010 is here: http://www.barnowltrust.org.uk/infopage.html?Id=254 According to the diary, the owl pair has already started making owl whoopee. Stay tuned for eggs.

Loved everyone's links, pics, clips, and birdie tales. Have a wonderful Friday!!!

  • Evening/morning all: Out all day today (yesterday to you).  Had nice steaming bowls of oatmeal at Ellen's (restaurant)  in Buellton with my daughter, then picked up Oro and went off to Nojoqui Falls (pronounced No-Ho-Hee or No-Ho-Kay or any other number of ways, depending on which expert you're talking to!).   Regardless of how you say it, it was a lovely little drive. Oro had lots of fun with all kinds of new smells to follow. Then home to do tax-related stuff wtih OH and a few errands, then to "book" club or more correctly, nice natter with lady friends punctuated by hot cups of tea and little fruit tarts!

Alan: Love the way these birds look at the cameras - they're so obviously curious about this odd thing lurking in their nests.

Heron: Very thoughtful of you to keep measuring tapes toasty and dry!

Diane: I'll join you in being angry at the loony government - and that's both sides of the aisle!!  Thanks for the barn owl links. Nobody home right now.

I posted a photo of the falls below, but it came out HUGE and even then I couldn't fit  it all in and it didn't "translate" well, But here's a photo of the beginnings of wildflowers along the road by the railroad tracks.

  • In order to while awa the time one could do worse than watch the videos on this Dutch site. The antics of Pa and S2 are always worth watching. If there was any justice S2 would be serving time in peregrine prison now for killing Ma. Instead Pa accepted the situation and has now raised two broods with S2.

The antics of the Jackdaws, doves and kestrel are hilarious.

    See http://www.beleefdelente.nl/slechtvalk

    Happy watching.

  • Annette Thank you for the super picture.  It's good to be reminded of what sunshine looks like!  Hope you enjoyed your walk.

  • Annette: Beautiful picture!!! Just lovely. One question, though. How could prime, expensive beach-front real estate like that be so deserted? No luxury homes, hotels, restaurants, etc. Is it because the railroad owns it? Or because it is state or federal park land? Forgive my ignorance if I'm missing the obvious. Truly stunning photo. Glad you had a good time. You're right about "both sides of the aisle". My Dad had the health care summit on the tele all day. Every one of them is bought and paid for. I had to go to my room; watching it was making my stomach eat itself.

  • Diane   what are you doing up at this time? The sleep police will get you!

  • Tiger: The sleep police gave up on me a long time ago. LOL!!!

  • Oh, Diane, I don't like to see you so angry - this ain't the gal we know and love!

Calm down, now - think forest in springtime, new leaves unfurling, birdsong all around - and no people to disturb your peace.

Think wild-flower meadows - the scents of summer - the hum of bees - butterflies all around ..

Think autumn leaves fluttering to the ground - carpeting the forest paths - the trees showing their naked beauty ...

Ain't it  a wonderful world?  Enjoy!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • A sunny hello to you all and I hope you are all enjoying life

Tiger  great link! Thank you. There was a lightning storm going on when I was watching.

Annette -   I agree with Diane - what a view from one's train window ! Glad you had a good time.

Margobird  I hope you are VERY much better now and anyone else who has been having it rough lately - please excuse my memory for not remembering you by name.

Anyone heard from HiaryH?  Lots of love if you are reading this Maureen and do trust it's a GOOD day for you.

Tish  is your computer still down? I've been having the odd problem with mine. Word not opening and weird things like that.

A question for  Alan  i think: What's happened to all the moss from the Hilton Head Osprey nest? Has the Osprey abandoned the nest? Has the nest had moss robbers? Or what ????   !!!!!

Geroge G  not seen your name around recently so hope you are keeping well. and Gary   - all well?

Diane Politics stinks   - which side of The Pond was the word 'spin' for lies coined? Us I suppose. Trust your dad is keeping well after his rough patch

    Enjoy your day  all!

  • Morning All,

OG, What a lovely poetic piece of advice for Diane. It was a good read for me to start my day with.

Annette, Thanks for the wildflower photograph. Except for the tax papers, it sounded like you had a full and enjoyable day.

Paul, I love your humour. Glad to hear you are surviving the snowy weather, although the slush can be worse than the actual snow.

The sun is trying to shine, but windy, before the rain returns tonight. Enjoy today.
