Well Thursday was certainly a roller coaster day!
What will today bring, well I am glad that it is Friday the 12, and not Friday the 13th!
Lets hope that EJ and Odin settle down to domestic bliss and we have an egg to coo over soon!!!
Let today be the day that Nora White 03(08) flies into Dyfi and puts the handsome Monty out of his misery!
Also would good to hear from Rutland if 5N (04) has found a mate too!
Maybe Friday will be the day that it all happens, then we can go and have a real happy weekend.

I wonder if Odin will continue to build and watch over the nest or whether he will give up in frustration and move on. I don't know what the norm is for these birds, whether he will go or whether he will wait for a passing female to take a shine to him - all this only applicable of course if EJ does not come back to settle here this season.
I would be surprised at this stage if Odin just upped and left. He has put tremendous (and joyful) effort into his nest building this year. He knows what EJ's temperament is like and doubt whether he will be too concerned himself yet.
Yesterday, when EJ returned, a lovely ritual took place whereby when he brought the fish to the nest, he made EJ wait for it. She was respectful to him, with no snatching, a few lovely soft chirps, demonstrating patience. This seemed to be as a result of her being away, she had to prove her patience with HIM as he had been patient waiting for her. (May be wrong of course).
Now in contrast last year, near the end of the season, Odin skydanced with a fish while EJ was sitting watching on the nest (she of course had been 'home' throughout the brooding and rearing of Caledonia and Alba) - well I had to laugh when he landed, after all that romancing, and she SNATCHED the fish out of his talons immediately with a passion and no manners lol.
Somehow I think these two understand each other perfectly well lol

Odin back on nest
Sigh.
"Why are we here, that is the question. And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. Yes, in this immense confusion one thing alone is clear. We are waiting for Godot (sic - EJ) to come."

......and still has the fish.........
Just out of interest, if say EJ does not nest here this year what is the latest a female would start laying if eg a new female appears for odin.
He has to be confused but obviously still expects her to return.
eowynk, I'm afraid I have to leave that to others to respond. But I think that there are a lot of osprey heading north at the moment. Roy Dennis said that very few of his were back, and I cannot believe they are all in osprey heaven. Even Red 8T has appeared!
mims thanks for reminding me that Dai Spot is actually a male! I should have remembered, LOL, but there is SOOO much going on and I my poor brain is not as good as it was. I've been out for lunch and return to find dear Odin, still clutching his fish. There must be a lovely young female out there waiting for him, even if EJ doesn't (at the moment!).

Odin is not the only one who finds EJ's behaviour confusing!
