After much anticipation we had our second chick fledged yesterday at 7.30pm.

Heavy showers in the morning saw the chick in question looking rather damp sitting in the bottom of the nest rather uninclined to do much, other than look miserable. The rain cleared to reveal a sunny, breezy day and as the chick's drenched feathers dried out it became more and more active. It was edge of the seat viewing as the chick levitated, hopped and then sat on the edge of the nest but still wouldn't go despite cheering from all at the Osprey Centre. Maybe it was stage fright... but it decided to save its maiden voyage for the eyes of our dedicated volunteers and eagle-eyed bloggers.

The eldest and first to fledge is doing well and taking ever more adventurous flights nearby the nest, often perching on one of the branches below the nest and occasionally disappearing all together, but it seems quick to come back home when fish supper is served. It is improving in confidence but landing requires a bit more practice.

So its two down (or rather up) and one to go hopefully number 3 will find its courage and coordination and take a big leap of faith soon.

P.S MUM I had to fight Paul off the computer to write this blog...so don't complain.
