Hello Everybody!

A big hello from everybody on the osprey team. There has been 'snow' shortage of excitment here at the osprey centre over the past few days, I just don't 'snow' how we're all going to cope....... okay I think thats enough of the (really bad) snow jokes. In all seriousness though it has been a great few days here at Loch Garten, there is a new team for a new season (some old faces, some new), there has been some very strange spring weather and we have a male and female osprey on the nest!

So first to the important stuff, the ospreys. We have been trying all today to get a good view of the male to compare to last year's fotage, however he seems to enjoy sitting behind branches!! However from what we've seen we're all pretty convinced that it is Odin, he came back on the same date as last year, EJ accepted him quickly and, quite simply, I feel like I know him..... but perhaps thats just me. So today we have had a number of succesful matings, Odin has brought in one fish and EJ has food solicited..... and food solicited.....and food solicited, I think Odin has got the message as he has just flown off the nest, most likely heading away to catch dinner.

So all is well with the ospreys and we're off and running for another five months of joy, tension, worry, happiness, sadness, excitment..... insert all other emotions here.

Now for an introduction to the team we have working here this year, as if you do get the chance to come visit, you'll want to know who's who. Firstly there is me (David), I was part of the team last year and I am warden this year. You may also remember Debbie who has returned again for a second season. The new members of the team are Izzy, Paul and Caroline, all three have worked for the RSPB before and, it is safe to say, are really excited to be at Loch Garten. We also have Paula, Julie and Carina working in the shop, who have all previously worked at Loch Garten. So to sum up team osprey 2010, we all love ospreys and we all love cake (its the two things that bind us together!). Please make yourself known to us if you ever visit the centre, it is always great to be able to put faces to names.

So here's to a great season ahead, enjoy..........
