Leighton Moss Visit 21st to 27th.

  • Just been reading and looking through the thread once more as I turned off for a couple of days with the messing around with the Forum.
It sounds as if you all had a fab time and your posts and pics are entertaining and make a good read. The Marsh Harriers did you proud and even tho' we will have to send up WJ for the Bitterns it seems with the list Ann put up that LM is brimming over with birds.

Well done and thanks to you all for posting and letting us join in the fun.

    Lot to learn

Thanks, Gaynor. But if the other Forumates who were also at LM over the last week or so put up their lists they would have far more species than we saw in the two days we visited Leighton Moss! LM is probably tied for best RSPB reserve with two others among those we have visited, although I should quickly add that we have only been to about 10 or 12 at the very most!

    Kind regards, Ann

  • I just spent almost an hour loading up photos and adding text, only for a message to appear which told me about a maximum image size. Why does the page let me insert the images if they are too large? I can't be bothered to resize everything again.

I had a lovely time at LM with all the forumites. Lots of Robins and other wonderful wildlife. Shame I can't share it with you without losing my temper!

Here's a tiny photo of a Robin. Hopefully it's not too big for the webpage to handle!

I make sure my pictures don't go over the limit Paul, they don't need to be a big picture to show I resize mine down to 1024 or 1200 and they don't end up being a large file size,

  • Shame you never got to see a Bitten Ann, but it looks like you saw a lot of the others.

On my check out day I came up to the moss and headed to Grisedale seeing a lot of peps have been starting off here but it came time to head back when no one turned up, I bumped into Paul near the feeding logs and he had just got a weasel, thats a first for me I have yet to see one, and seeing the cafe was not open till late I thought I would call up to Foulshaw Moss, sadly not a lot showing and it was hot so thought i would call up to Hay Bridge Nature Reserve that was farther down the road but after turning off the main road it was not a nice drive so after a mile i turned back and headed for my destination, found it quite easy but did no know it was a pub, this is why i have not been on not been getting to bed till late the first night i was drinking with the landlord and another from round to corner so did not get to bed till 2:30am
The event was good it was packed and i got some nice pictures, the best was a surpise by Eddie the Eagle walking up towards me so got his picture, and he was first to do the race did good time too but was not the winner but it was nice to see him.
I am now staying at my Sisters she is away for five days to Spain so i am looking after fatty the cat :)
Its been another long day again so will have to start getting some pictures together, i have allready shown the pics of ETE so might just put these up on a new thread :)

It is so exasperating when things go wrong when you have spent time uploading everything to computer MC but when you cool down I'm sure we would love to see even just a few of your pics of your week away. The little Robin looks as if he is flattened down sunbathing, but cant be sure as I can't enlarge as it takes me for ever!!!!

    Lot to learn

  • Paul, Sorry to hear you've been having trouble with posting photos. While I cannot help, I'm sure others in addition to Jim will have suggestions. Hope you are able to post eventually without your blood pressure rising!
Jim, Never mind about my not seeing a Bittern at LM this time. We've seen them elsewhere. We had a great view at Ham Wall the second to last time we were there. A Bittern flew across in front of us while we were sitting on the bench at the first viewing platform--fabulous view and with a Glossy Ibis in the foreground!

    Kind regards, Ann

  • I'm sure Paul will give it another go, I would upload one at a time there might be just that one were it was not resized when saved its done that to me and its a pain it the, you know what lol

At least you have seen them then Ann, and with a Glossy Ibis in the foreground too must have been a good view.

  • In reply to James:

I think this will be my last photo from LM - a Song Thrush in the car park early on Wednesday

However, I will add a few more from other nature reserves I did while I was up there but I'll stick those elsewhere as they are mainly not birds
