We are delighted to announce that this morning (Saturday) we opened some sections of our trails and the car park so that we can welcome visitors back to wonderful Leighton Moss!

Of course visitors will be required to follow on-site guidance which will be provided by our team. Be aware that we are limiting the number of vehicles in the car park and as a consequence, it has limited capacity. If the car park is full upon arrival, please DO NOT park on the nearby roadside verges.

The car park will be open only from 9.30am - 5pm daily.

Our visitor centre, shop, café, toilets and all hides remain closed.

Although access is severely restricted we hope that visitors will be able to enjoy a walk through sections of woodland and reedbed and experience the magic of the reserve. The sound of booming bitterns and singing reed warblers and the sight of damselflies, marsh harriers and wildflowers are sure to lift the spirits of all nature lovers during this difficult time.

We do urge our visitors to please stay local to your nearest reserves and greenspaces. Anyone choosing to visit should observe all current government advice around social distancing and hygiene.

  • Unless you can open another part of the moss to make a circular walk there is no way anyone on the paths can stay two metres apart, so I would like to know how you are going to do this?

  • Hi Jim – that’s a really good question. We have limited the access to many parts of the reserve to ensure that visitors can observe social distancing in accordance with government guidelines.  This means that some of the paths and all of the hides are currently closed to the public. We have put in place a clearly signed one-way route from and to the visitor centre via the garden and pond dipping area. From the dipping area, visitors can walk along the path to the boardwalk, keeping 2m apart and we have created areas along this route where people can step safely off the paths to let others pass or to enjoy the space. The Causeway is wide enough to allow people to pass safely and we have opened the pathway toward (but not including) Lower Hide; again, with passing / stopping places. Staff are on hand at the centre to during opening hours to help clarify these access options. For now, we hope that this allows lovers of Leighton Moss to safely return and we do ask that all visitors consider the well-being and comfort of all others on the site at all times. I hope that this helps answer your question Jim, and we look forward to seeing you back at Leighton Moss in the near future! All the best, Jon
