Hello everyone,

Sunday (1 June) saw us continue our Singing and Ringing events, for everyone who attended it was a brilliant morning. The event allowed the group to hear more about identifying bird song and habitat management practices here at Leighton Moss. As well as providing excursions to areas of the reserve where there is ordinarily no public access. Finally, some excellent views of some wonderful birds including, bearded tit, reed warbler, reed bunting, and long-tailed tit caught and ringed by our trained experts as part of an ongoing scientific study. As promised a quick update about the individuals caught during this event. The bearded tit caught, was first ringed in July 2015. It was seen here at Leighton Moss, 8 times in 2015, 16 times in 2016 and 4 times in 2018. Most of these sightings were in autumn on the grit trays. Additionally, one of the reed warblers was caught an impressive 4 years and 316 days after its initial ringing and wasn’t a nestling at the time of ringing.

If you weren’t lucky enough to be part of last weeks Singing and Ringing event. Don’t forget that there are still a couple of spaces left on this weekend’s Singing and Ringing event (Saturday 8 June). For more information visit our events pages and to book your spot just call the visitor centre on (01524) 701601. (Pic by Jon Carter)

Have a great week,

Lucy
