Today's gorgeous weather has more than made up for yesterday's miserable showing and brought some good sightings today too.
The black tern that was here yesterday is still around; it seems to be going backwards and forwards between the Eric Morecambe pools and the Lower and Public hides. The saltmarsh pools had some other good sightings today too with eight or nine ruffs, eight ringed plover, a spotted redshank, a merlin, two peregrines and a juvenile marsh harrier.
One young visitor to the reserve was very excited to see a group of 10 red deer hinds at the Griesdale hide making the most of the September sun, while a spotted flycatcher was spotted (!) at the Tim Jackson hide. We also had an osprey flying through towards the north over Island Mere.
Otters continue to feature regularly amongst the sightings, with an adult and two young seen at the Lower hide yesterday morning.
