I'm sure that I'd be preaching to the converted, if I reminded blog group members of the importance of feeding garden birds during this prolonged cold spell.

However, I thought it worth mentioning that it is equally important that your birds also get a supply of water.  Not only do they need this to drink, but also to wash and preen their feathers.

Admittedly, this can be rather labour intensive at the moment, as it seems to freeze as soon as it's put out.  Do persevere though; they do appreciate it!

RSPB wardens also need water to survive!  Unfortunately, our supply of water has also been frozen up (in our Portakabin) since last Monday.  Fortunately, Tarmac have been on hand to keep us supplied, though thankfully, not by leaving it outside in small bowls!

Further information on feeding garden birds can be found on the RSPB's website.
