Another great day here at Langford including:

  • brambling and siskin at the feeding station, plus plentiful goldfinch, greenfinch, chaffinch, blue tit and great tit,
  • peregrine hunting on Phase 3,
  • three kingfishers - good to know they are still around in the freezing weather,
  • snipe on Phase 3 and a group of three feeding on Phase 2,
  • woodcock on Phase 3 - this bird had a lucky escape as the peregrine fancied it's chances at lunch!
  • sparrowhawk on Phase 1
  • merlin late in the day over the silt lagoons,
  • bearded tits flitting between Phase 1 and lagoon 6 - minimum of 5 birds on site,
  • bittern dropping down into the balancing pond,
  • 4 water rails scooting over the ice on Phase 1,
  • numerous wildfowl including mallard, teal, tufted duck, pochard, shelduck and goldeneye,
  • cetti's warbler singing from Phase 1.

And a bit of mammal news to finish....our regular group of 3 roe deer once again treated us to close views on Phase 3, looking fantastic against the snow!
