Yesterday Stuart, Will and I completed the monthly Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) on a glorious warm, sunny autumn day – more of those please! Some winter wildfowl have joined us already and this will only increase in the next few weeks as we approach the beginning of winter. Yesterday’s results are as follows –

125 mallard

102 tufted duck

33 teal

22 shoveler

21 wigeon

1 pochard

40 mute swan

35 canada goose

2 greylag goose

2 cormorant

9 little egret

5 grey heron

11 great crested grebe

1 little grebe

156 lapwing

4 snipe

141 coot

8 moorhen

3 black-headed gull

1 kingfisher

Also on site yesterday were a nuthatch calling from the large oak trees on the public footpath, a grey wagtail over the Beach Hut and Stuart and Will had a nice group of reed and sedge warblers feeding together in reed on Phase 2 and several yellow wagtails over.
