Just to let everyone know that this weekend, the farmers will be in moving sugar beet. There will be some delays for 10-15 minutes while the lorries load. Why not take the time to look out for the large finch flock feeding on scattered seed and on the wild bird seed crop whilst you are waiting. Do let us know if you see any brambling!

Apologies for any inconvenience.

I was lucky enough to see a small group of lesser redpoll this afternoon on birch trees at the edge of the quarry plant. These are the first lesser redpoll of the winter at Langford. Look out on alder trees in the scrub around the visitor trails for this species and siskin - another small finch that favors alder and birch for feeding. Other sightings from today include 9 goldeneye on Phase 1, green sandpiper, redshank and a smooth newt, found by Julie whilst hedge planting - great to see this, we don't get many newt records on site.
