Phil - Canon 7D and 500mm IS II plus x1.4. That said, it was actually too close at one point.

You were very lucky, Matt and I have been to Suffolk Wildlife Trusts Lackford Lakes reserve today and there were six hobbies showing, however they did not come close enough to get a shot of them. I managed to photograph some damselflies as there were several of those flying around.
