Good morning. Our annual Race for Wildlife is almost upon us! The event will take place on Sunday and here is some more information including the route maps.

The two kilometre fun run

This will start at 10am and the start will be just west of the visitor centre. The route will partly be on grassy paths and partly on surfaced tracks:

The five kilometre route

This will start at 11am and the start will be near the reserve’s New Fen viewpoint, which is around half a mile from the visitor centre. Please make sure that you take this into account and are registered by 10.30am. The route will be partly on surfaced tracks and partly on the riverbank Public Footpath. Please note that parts of the Public Footpath may be muddy, so please take care when negotiating these sections. The route looks like this:

The 10 kilometre route

This will also start at 11am and as above, the start will be near the reserve’s New Fen viewpoint, which is around half a mile from the visitor centre. Please make sure that you take this into account and are registered by 10.30am. The route will be on a mixture of grassy tracks, the riverbank Public Footpath and on surfaced tracks. There will be a drinks station roughly half way round the route. The route looks like this:

Some more information

All three routes will be clearly marked out and are colour coded. These correspond with the maps shown above, so the two kilometre route will be marked by yellow markers, the five kilometre route will be marked by blue markers and the 10 kilometre route will be marked by the red markers. There will also be marshals placed at strategic points around the reserve and there will be backmarkers for both the five kilometre and 10 kilometre routes.

There will be a secure baggage area in front of the visitor centre. The visitor centre and toilets will be open all day and hot drinks will be available from the tea and coffee machine.

After the race, medals will be distributed to the top three males and females from each distance. All participants will receive a goody bag and there will be a homemade cake sale in the visitor centre. This will include some gluten free cakes, so we hope you all take the opportunity to try some!

As I write, we currently have around 55 participants registered in advance so there are still plenty of spaces available if you are thinking of taking part. Please follow this link for more information about how to book onto the event.
