Today was a day of fixing, repairing and moving tons of material.  This morning Emma split our trusty volunteers into three teams.  Team one - Nigel and Phil went down the reserve to repair a key piece of fence to prevent the cattle escaping from a section of our wet grassland.  From the sound of it fixing the fence was a big job and ended up getting more or less replaced rather than repaired.  The second team of Rob, Roger and new volunteer Dane were working around the visitor centre weeding around the new hedge and then putting down a layer of wood chips to suppress future vegetation growth (other than the hedge of course!).  Finally Emma and Darren were ferrying materials around in the truck

After lunch, Emma had essential office work to finish off but I was back from a meeting so the guys had me for company.  The real chain-gang style work started with the ever popular pothole repair work.  Both the track down to the visitor car park and the staff car park had become pretty rough.  Nigel and I were loading and unloading trailers full of road plannings whilst Dane, Phil and Rob were cleaning out the holes, leveling the material we were filling them with and then tamping down the surface.  With a little rain, which didn't dampen our spirits, we really were the Soggy Bottom Boys!  After shifting 3 to 4 tons of stone we had managed to fix most of the potholes and found time to run a couple of trailer loads of wood chips to finish off under the new hedge.  It is always satisfying when you finish a job.

Unfortunately for all our lady readers George Clooney didn't put in an appearance.

We hope to see you soon.
