Today's visit

Well worth the couple of hours drive from the midlands, had a great day. Bitterns, smew, marsh harrier, long tailed tit, redpoll, great white egret, teal, reed bunting, Siskin all photographed. Bit of work sorting them then I can post a few. sun shone most of the day, will be back again.
  • Ham Wall always seems to provide a good day,if you are really fit it pays to park at Ashcott corner and then spend half of your time going west to Shapwick, think Otters may be at either place but we saw them from Shapwicks Noah's hide.

Of course you are also only a handful of miles away from the Cranes,a website "The Great Crane Project" has a map of all the sightings of them.

  • Will go and have a look for the cranes next time. A few photos uploaded for anyone to take a look. Whilst strictly amateur They  up the photographic opportunities available to all. A good day and a few nice snaps

  • Hi, Glad you had a good visit. Good selection of photo's - glad you got the Bittern you came for - along with a few other gems by the sounds of things. Glad the sun shone for you. Come back and see us again soon and thanks for posting your comments and photos. As Sooty mentioned The Great Crane Project has a website where they post the latest locations of the birds. The RSPB West Sedgemoor Office may also be able to help you with locations/directions as it's on their doorstep.
