Yes, it's that time of year again and Starlings are beginning to swarm over Ham Wall at Dusk.

The Avalon Marshes Starling Hotline is now LIVE. This is a recorded message telling you where the last known location of the Starling roost was.  The number is:  07866 554142

There are 3 main sites locally where they could roost each night and the roost location could move to a new site at ant time so it's worth giving it a ring before you set off. The 3 sites are Ham Wall (RSPB), Shapwick Heath (Natural England) & Westhay Moor (Somerset Wildlife Trust).

The RSPB will not have the full time Starling Information staff on duty every day this seson but we will do our best to cover as many days as possible particularly the weekends when we are obviously busier.

If you do want to come purely for the spectacle then it would be best to avoid weekends as we still have very limited parking (although we are working on this).

The Starlings are currently roosting at Ham Wall distantly in front of the 1st viewing platform and estimates suggest anywhere between 6000-10,000 birds currently. This will obviously swell over the coming weeks particularly if it gets colder. By January we would expect to have at least 1 million birds.

Happy watching!
