We had some special visitors yesterday at the reserve. Four colleagues from our Scottish headquarters are cycling all the way from Edinburgh to London, to attend the climate change rally on 17 August. That is 520 miles of pedalling. Along the way they have been visiting RSPB reserves, to find out what effects global warming will have on our countryside and wildlife. Then at the rally outside parliament they will be asking our MPs to take climate change seriously. Along the way they've had to deal with broken spokes, aching legs and a collision with a taxi!
Yesterday was one of their longest legs, 110 miles in all. All the way from Hull to Wisbech. By the time they got to us they looked exhausted! So it was only fair we gave them some nice jam doughnuts to fuel them on the way. They had a great time looking at wildlife on the reserve too, including avocets (much excitement over an avocet chick), painted lady butterflies and a rather lost whooper swan. I think they also spotted one of our turtle doves on the way out too.
