Ok, so the weather has been mixed this week and yesterday was a bit grim, but the bright blue sky and chilly sunshine on the reserve today just go to show that you shouldn't hide indoors all winter!

Lovely for a stroll around the trails and there's lots of great wildlife around too. Here's a summary of this week's highlights:

Curlew by Neil Smith

Golden plover - thousands on the fresh water scrapes this morning; three flocks of at least 1000 each and 8000 on Tuesday
Hen harrier - 2 over the saltmarsh most mornings this week
Marsh harrier - a male and a female over the saltmarsh this morning and 4 on Wednesday
Pink footed goose - 600+ on the wet grassland today....are we on the right side of the Wash?
Grey partridge - 9 in the edges of the reedbed this morning
Whooper swan - 10 on the scrapes on Monday and groups have been frequently dropping in and out over the past couple of weeks
Curlew - at least 50 on the wet grassland and more on the saltmarsh
Snow bunting - 6 on the footpath to the 360 hide

Weekend Tides

Weekend Weather

Saturday - misty in the morning and rain forecast for the afternoon, so betweeb 10 and 3 is your best bet for making the most of the reserve. Top temperature of 7 degrees and increasingly windy throughout the day. Wear a waterproof.

Sunday - raining holding over from Saturday in the morning  but clearing around lunchtime for sunny spells in the afternoon. Top temperature of 9 degrees and strong winds forecast so wrap up and leave unbrellas at home.

Monday - cloudy in the morning with a bit of mist and the risk of showers towards evening, but that's ok because it'll be dark! Top temperature of 8 degrees and lighter winds. Is it time to bring out the santa hats yet?

And Finally - thanks to everyone who came along to the Christmas Fair last weekend and spent their hard earned cash to support the work of the RSPB.
