Hi,

It has been a very wet week on the Lincolnshire Wash. We are now in the wettest drought since records began!

The bird of the day is a black-winged stilt which is showing very well on the scrapes at Frampton. This stunning wading bird has had the occasional flight on to the wet grassland, where it has been harrassed by the displaying lapwings.

Also on the reserve today:

A pair of garganey on the wet grassland
Little ringed plover 2
Avocet 60+
Yellow wagtail 2
Wheatear 4

  • Hi-

I found the SEO from the reserve centre as it was cruising along the far bank- I was warm and dry drinking hot chocolate

    :)

  • Our paths must have crossed Seymour! Was at the reserve for nearly six hours today, enduring two drenchings! Worth it though. As you say, all of the birds you mentioned were showing well. I imagine we'll be seeing plenty of photographs of the Black-Winged Stilt over the next few days!

Got some stunning views of the Short-eared Owl. Twas' no more than thirty feet in front of me at one point and was sat on a post along the bank as I left. Finally got my eyes on the pesky Sedge Warbler that has been hiding from me in reeds by the roadside for the last week or so too! :-)

  • Hi-  saturday was good too-  White wags, 3 hirundines, Scaup, LRP, SEO  and Stilt

    Now about some gorse ...............

    :)
