Wildlife highlights

It’s official, winter’s on the way: the whooper swans are back!
Plenty of teal and wigeon around too as well as the wonderful waders we’re famous for.

Here are some of this week’s highlights...

Long tailed skua – resting on the reedbed for an hour on Thursday morning.
Dark bellied Brent geese – 400-500 at least feeding on the saltmarsh yesterday and today.
Pale bellied Brent goose – just one amongst the group of darker birds on the saltmarsh this morning.
Whooper swan – one seen on Sunday and two on the wet grassland this morning.
Pintail – a few birds in eclipse plumage on the scrapes this week.
Curlew sandpiper – up to 6 on the wet grassland and scrapes throughout the week
Little stint – two very mobile individuals around this week, seen on the reedbed, wet grassland AND scrapes yesterday.
Merlin – hunting over the saltmarsh yesterday.

Weekend weather:

Friday
Bright and breezy with sunny periods around midday. A cool westerly wind though so the highs of 12 degrees will feel decidedly cooler.

Saturday
A mixture of sunshine and showers with highs of 11 degrees and slightly lighter westerly winds.

Sunday
A greater chance of showers, particularly in the afternoon, and the wind veering from south easterly to northerly bringing a chill in the air.

Hope to see you down there soon.
