Hello all,
Apologies for the hiatus in recent sightings, we should be back on track again.
So, something of a cold week. Meaning it has only been the hardy folk coming out to us. But some good sightings still. And a first recent sightings posting for me, Chris, the new Visitor Services Officer. What can I offer you as what we have seen so far this week:
Marsh harrier – a female has been hunting over the salt marsh most days this week Golden plover – flocks of up to 3000 roosting on the wet grassland Brambling – seen under the feeders all week. Maximum count has been 7 at once Lapwing – 100+ on the reedbed and 200+ on the scrapes all week Richardsons canada goose – Yes, OK, not a separate species. And of dodgy origin. But this weeny version of the familiar goose is interesting to see and has been on the reedbeds all week Red-crested pochard – a female has been tottling around the reedbeds all week Pink footed goose – a singleton in the reedbed, advance party of more to come?
Weekend tides
Weekend weather Friday - A Cold and cloudy through the day, with the chance of an afternoon shower. Temperatures staying pretty low, top temperature predicted to be 4. Moderate winds from the north west.
Saturday – Remaining chilly out there, with the top temperature staying at 4. The wind is lessening and swining round to the south. Light cloud all day. I'd advise wrapping up warm
Sunday – Yikes! Light rain and sleet forecast for all day, the temperature not getting above 2. And the wind getting to be a rather brisk south easterly, which will only add to the chill. Definitely a good reason to call into the visitor centre for a cuppa!
Monday – Predicted to be light snow overnight, but this should die away to another cloudy day. Temperatures much the same as Sunday, wind dying away a bit (but not much) and veeering round to the east
More next week!
Reedbed, freshwater scrapes, saltmarsh and wet meadow. Frampton Marsh has it all! Come and pay us a visit soon.
Sorry, didn't get a chance to check for replies until now. Conditions underfoot are variable. The paths to the hides are clear. The sea wall is muddy in places, so stout footwear is probably advised there. The key item of clothing today (Sunday) was thermals. Several sets thereof!
