It's Friday. It's gone 5 o'clock. No, not time for Crackerjack (and my word, that dates me...). But it is the start of the half-term holiday. Hurrah!
Well, maybe not hurrah. You may well be a parent or grandparent wondering what on earth to do all week with some excitable kids. Well, why not bring them down onto the reserve?
Running all through the holiday we have got one of our wonderful treasure trails. This time it is all about the wonders of migration. Pop into the visitor centre, pick up an entry sheet then go for a nice walk around the reserve. You'll find clue cards along the way, telling you about how animals travel long distances to be here at Frampton. Answer the questions on the cards and when you've gone all the way round, come back into the centre. if you've done well, you'll get a prize! Its just £2 to have a go, with no need to book.
As you walk round the reserve, you'll go by our pond dipping pool. Now the weather is a bit warmer the animals in the pond have woken up, so we can do some dipping to find them. There are organised sessions on Tuesday 26 May where you will join a leader who will explain what you are seeing. This is a popular event, so please book by calling 01205 724678 or emailling lincolnshirewashreserves@rspb.org.uk There are five sessions throughout the day, costing £3 per child.
If you can't make the Tuesday, but would have liked to have had a go, then drop into the visitor centre to hire one of our nets. It costs £2 per net (plus either a form of ID or £20 deposit) and you can dip to your heart's content. Though obviously without our expert guide to tell you what is what...
If you prefer to stay on dry land, on Thursday 28 May you can have a mini monster adventure. Join our fearless guide to discover what tiny terrors live under our feet by going bug hunting. Like the pond dipping, you need to book for places on either the morning or afternoon session, which cost £3 per child.
Finally, as if all that wasn't enough, there is a family fun day on Sunday 31 May. Make a seed bomb (not as dangerous as it sounds), build a butterfly feeder, make a mask and more! £4 per child, and it runs 10:30 am - 4 pm, with no need to book.
Phew, what a lot of fun is to be had. Hope to see you soon!
Reedbed, freshwater scrapes, saltmarsh and wet meadow. Frampton Marsh has it all! Come and pay us a visit soon.
