Here is the latest blog post from our visitor experience intern, George:

--------------------------------------------------------

It feels a lot like summer now. Temperatures are soaring and lots of events are happening, such as bug hunting and pond dipping. I’ve also put out the new migration treasure trail which the kids are now enjoying, especially when there are promises of chocolate as a prize!

On May 24, I attended a social meeting at the visitor centre for both volunteers and staff. There was quite a lot of food there, and amazingly some leftovers for me and Nelly. However, food left unattended in theoffice kitchen doesn’t last very long and is almost guaranteed to disappear overnight! Maybe it’s those pesky ants that are trying to invade the kitchen...

The weather here has thankfully stopped raining, and has opened up to beautiful skies and hot sunny days. I do like it when we have a bit of sun but too much can be unbearable sometimes, especially without cloud cover. On those types of days I’m often begging for high wind and rain.

Not much else to report, turtle dove and cuckoo are still around but nearly all of the brent geese have gone. I’m still learning bird Latin thanks to volunteer Eleanor’s challenge, recent examples would be the great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus) and the coot (Fulica atra). Fun times ahead!

Reedbed, freshwater scrapes, saltmarsh and wet meadow. Frampton Marsh has it all! Come and pay us a visit soon.
