Following on from a successful and sold out Raptor Ramble last year, we will be starting this year’s Warden Walks with an introduction to bird song on Saturday the 19th.

Our summer migrants aren’t back yet so it’s a great time to get out and learn about our resident birds. Robin, blackbird, wren and greenfinch are among the regulars at Frampton that will also be familiar garden birds. Throw in a few farmland treats like yellowhammer, linnet and corn bunting and you’ll have a fantastic morning.

We will take it nice and slowly so if you've got no experience then it's a great place to start but if you know a few and want to know some more, it will be a great refresher for you too.

There may also be some early migrants to be found on the reserve afterwards or you can go and practise your new skills along the hedgerow.

We will start at 7am with a finish of 09:30 where we'll pop back to the VC and have it for ourselves for half an hour to chat over the morning with a cuppa. If the weather is forecast to be poor on Saturday we will call all participants on Friday morning to reschedule to the Sunday. The cost of the morning will be adults £10, Children £5 with RSPB members getting 20% off.

Print outs for those attending will be available on the day though a notebook is also essential as they really will help you learn. If you don't have one of your own, there will be birders pocketbooks available on the day for £1.50.

Learning bird song is another way to enjoy and appreciate the natural world around us and isn't far off learning another language. Have a read and listen to some discussion on why we should learn bird song.

And if you want some homework before the the 19th, here you go.

Places can go pretty quickly so if you want to attend or have any questions please call us on 01205 724678 or e-mail us at lincolnshirewashreserves@rspb.org.uk
