First 2018 Visit to Fowlmere

What a difference a week makes, today its so cold, raining and very wet everywhere. Last Sat the sun shone, its was warm and we set of to visit RSPB Fowlmere. Not many photos but we did have some great sightings.

Saw our first swallows flying over the mere & swooping down to drink or take insects from the surface, not sure which. Then we had great views of a singing Chiffchaf followed by our first Cettis Warbler singing noisily. The reserve has a very clear chalk stream around one side and we saw a few brown trout but no water voles.

A pair of Little Grebes, well there were 2 when I clicked the shutter but you can see one under the water.

A number of Greylag about.

We also had great views of a pair of Marsh Harriers bonding and carrying nesting material over the reed beds.

Unfortunately the Turtle Doves had not returned yet, so a good reason to go back soon.
