Late Afternoon/Evening Trip 15th July

Hi There :)

We usually visit fowlmere early in the morning where some more of the tresures of fowlmere are shared, but as Doug has mentioned a visit in the late afternoon and evening equally can share a few things too...

After enjoying some sandwiches in the picnic area at about 5:30 we headed out around the reserve, sedge and reed warblers were flitting around everywhere, at the Reedbed hide a group of swallows skimmed along the surface of the water, catching insects why a juvenile water rail wandered around the back in the reeds. A Kingfisher flew from pole to pole, taking some time at each to look around, take a quick dip or to before heading off towards the Drewer hide, at about 8:10 the marsh harrier came in, did a quick circuit and then dropped silently into the reeds.... turtle doves were cooing away, 2 were in the old bare tree just past the owls nest...

Talking of Owls we had a quick look to see what was happening there....

After filming the owl we headed off home and thought we can't really top that experience but as we left the car park and headed up the road to leave we stopped in the middle of the road to capture a mutjac deer and a wonder brown hare, that were in the field to our left, surrounded by greylag geese, some grey partridges, with corn buntings on the telpehone wires, yellowhammers in the trees and a couple of kestrels flying around as well...

Fowlmere never disappoints... so much to see and so much to enjoy.... so why not pop across one evening in the next few weeks and enjoy Fowlmere's summer treasures? :)
