Why we want you

St Aidan’s is a brand new site and different from any other RSPB reserve in its design for visitor experience. It will welcome a wide range of visitors including birdwatchers, runners, walkers, cyclists and equestrian enthusiasts! We need confident and enthusiastic people to engage with the public and help them get the most out of their visit. You will do this by telling people all about the fantastic wildlife and history of the site. You will also be the eyes and ears of the RSPB team, encouraging good use of the site and reporting any problems.

What’s in it for you?

This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to people from all walks of life and who enjoys passing on their passion for wildlife. You will spend time with a friendly team, in a beautiful setting. It's also a great opportunity to work at a unique wildlife site learning more about nature whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB! If you're thinking of your CV, this experience is invaluable in finding work in conservation and the people engagement skills gained are transferrable to lots of other areas. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in people engagement, identification skills and assisting at events if desired.

The skills you need

We're looking for someone who is outgoing, enthusiastic and confident with good communication skills. A love of wildlife is more important than a deep knowledge of conservation. You'll need to have the confidence to strike up conversations with people of all ages, a desire to help, an enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation, but most important of all, you'll need a friendly demeanor and a ready smile! You will love wildlife and be happy to share that enthusiasm with our visitors. You need to also be comfortable in discussing the benefits of membership of the RSPB with visitors, as well as completing customer surveys where appropriate.

This role will involve walking around the site, so a good level of health and willingness to be outdoors is crucial.

Notes

Several volunteers are needed to provide greater flexibility.

Appropriate training will be provided. We will pay your travel expenses so that you won't be out of pocket and we'll provide you with a RSPB t-shirt and fleece to identify you to the public.
