Although the weather in the Aire Valley has continued to be a bit less-than-inviting recently, it’s still been wonderful to be able to get out and about a bit more – and to see all the signs of spring appearing on our sites! Nest building, butterflies in flight, and the growth of spring flowers are exciting to see as we continue opening up more of our facilities and activities.

With the half-term holiday swiftly approaching, we’re especially excited to announce that some family activities are now bookable!

We’re kicking off on Monday 31 May with a family nature walk, led by our lovely Ranger Alan - join him to discover some of the amazing spring wildlife around Fairburn Ings!

Many of our regular visitors have been asking us recently about pond dipping at Fairburn Ings, and of course we’re keen to get this old favourite up and running again. Unfortunately, our pond dipping platforms suffered some flood damage earlier this year, and we now have very limited space in which we can dip safely.

To make the most of our space and keep our activities COVID-secure, we are offering the opportunity to book one-hour slots of our platform for half-term pond dipping. As this is a small space, the group should be a maximum of ten people, who will have exclusive access for their hour-long slot. The ticket also includes the hire of five sets of pond dipping equipment, which will be sanitised before and after each use, and an introduction and demonstration from one of our team.

Whether or not you’re taking part in an activity, there is plenty to discover on both sites – maybe you’re even ready to take on a Wild Challenge as you explore? https://www.rspb.org.uk/fun-and-learning/for-families/family-wild-challenge/

Rain or shine (hopefully shine!) we look forward to welcoming you to the Aire Valley soon, and hope you have a very happy half term!
