    Dr Nikki Gammans was talking about the success of the reintroduction of short-haired bumblebees to our Dungeness reserve. Queen bees were bought over here from Sweden in May and were released in our amazing wildflower meadows which is perfect bee habitat.   • Black Stork sighted at Dungeness!

    A black stork was sighted here by our visitors around 1pm this afternoon and again at Dungeness Point. The black stork is not a usual visitor to the UK and normally migrates to the mid and eastern European continent to breed in the summer, flying back to Africa in the winter.

    They live in habitats of swampy forests and make nests high in tree crowns. They are approximately 100cm in height and resemble the white stork…

    Bitterns are ready for the breeding season at Dungeness again.  Currently the count is two booming males on the reserve.  They’ve been doing so for about a week now so we’re sure the females are well aware they’re there and are hopefully very impressed!
