Dungeness has been basked in glorious sunshine over the last few weeks, bringing out all sorts of exciting and wonderful wildlife. Bees, butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies have all been whizzing about. Crickets are chirping in the long grass, flowers are blooming and baby animals from tufted ducks to rabbits have been spotted everywhere!
We were lucky enough to have a bee eater visit our reserve last Saturday and we are hoping more might make a fleeting visit as they are such beautiful, colourful birds. Great white egrets are back and have been seen almost every day this week. 12 little egrets were also seen at one time on the reserve too! These birds make Dungeness feel so exotic, especially in the hot weather!

A lot of waders have also been seen; spotted redshanks, common sandpiper, dunlin, black-tailed godwit, little ringed plover and sanderling are to name but a few. They can all be seen really well from the hides that line Burrowes pit and from the visitor centre.
We've been busy on the reserve with lots of events. Our Sound Mirrors Open Day was successful last weekend with over 400 people turning up for it! Thank you to everyone who came, we hope to do this again (and more events!) next year.

This weekend coming we are having a stall at New Romney Country Fayre and also hosting Dungeness' first ever Big Wild Sleepout! We look forward to seeing everyone at these events.
