Just a quick update on what's been seen about the reserve over the last 5 days. Lots of winter migrants are starting to arrive now!

Brent goose – six at Denge Marsh on 15^th

 

Wigeon – on Burrowes pit on 18^th   

Pintail – at Burrowes pit and ARC on 19^th

Goldeneye – two female on Burrowes pit on 20^th      

Goosander – female on Burrowes pit from Makepeace hide on 18^th

 

Black necked grebe – at ARC on 18^th      

 

Crane – Hookers pits ramp on 18^th  

Little Egret – 12 on Burrowes Pit on 19^th

Great white egret – 8 on Burrowes pit on 20^th     

Bittern – Denge Marsh on 20^th    

 

Hen harrier – near Christmas Dell on 15^th

Marsh harrier – Denge Marsh on 19^th

Buzzard – two over reserve on 18^th

Peregrine – two out on Burrowes pit from Makepeace hide on 18^th

Merlin – along the return trail on 17^th  

 

Golden plover – 60 flew over Burrowes pit on 20^th

Water rail – at the dipping pond on 20^th

Snipe – 3 on Burrowes pit on 19^th

 

Sand martin – over reserve on 18^th

House martin – over reserve on 18^th

Swallow – over reserve on 18^th     

 

Kingfisher – Burrowes pit and ARC on 20^th

 

Wheatear – on roof of Firth hide on 18^th   

Stonechat – near the access track on 19^th  

Whinchat – by the visitor centre on 16^th

Fieldfare – four at Hookers pits ramp on 18^th

Bearded tit – 20 at Denge Marsh on 20^th

 

Chiffchaff – around reserve on 19^th

Lesser whitethroat – in car park on 17^th  

Blackcap – by Burrowes pit on 18^th  

Siskin – at Denge Marsh on 15^th

Goldcrest – pine trees at ARC on 17^th   

Brambling – on the car park feeders on 20^th

Redpoll – eight feeding by pool near Makepeace hide on 18^th   

Tree sparrows – car park feeders on 18^th  

Meadow pipit – by the visitor centre on 16^th

Goldfinch – by the visitor centre on 16^th

 

Ring ouzel – at Denge Marsh on 15^th

Small copper butterfly - 2 seen on the access track on 20th
