This morning myself and a mate paid a visit to Old Moor on what turned out to be another lovely sightings day.
The weather was cloudy and with a cold breeze (the sun threatened to come out quite a few times but hardly made it).
After never seeing a Black Necked Grebe before this week I've managed to see two this week with the other bird on Orgreave Lakes.
Viewed from Wader Scrape Hide it was showing well though never really made it close to the hide while we were there so just a mainly record shot.
Another distant shot from Wath Ings hide was the Black Tailed Godwit so yet another record shot.
Loads of these fellas causing a racket
with a few Linnets (I think from field pool east hide)
A lovely Little Grebe from the Reedbed Hide
Tree Sparrow Farm female Bullfinch
Garden Hide Goldfinch
and an Orange Tip Butterfly flitting about in the bit of sun that came out.
after being out from 5:30am I couldn't wait for a breakfast at 9:30 so had to have a local one before setting off lol.
Yet another cracking day was had and we met some lovely people in the hides as well as the wildlife.

What a great day out you had Alan and well done on your first B-n-Grebe, they are stunning birds in breeding plumage and you captured this well; the ones at Woolston stay pretty distant so very hard to get decent shots of them. I love the linnet, so pretty and the gorgeous Orange Tip, and the little Grebe and ..... all of them actually ! great report and pics, thanks for getting up so early to bring us these beauties, you deserved that breakfast lol

Great trip report, Alan. Sounds like you had a good day! We have not yet seen a Black Necked Grebe but we managed to see a couple of Orange Tips and huge numbers of Sand Martins on Tuesday in the Midlands at a Warwickshire Wildlife Trust place, Brandon Marsh.
Kind regards, Ann

Thank's Jim
Here you go Jim have a good time if you go www.rspb.org.uk/.../oldmoor_dearnevalley_tcm9-260579.pdf
Ask in the shop where things have been spotted, if the Black Necked Grebe is still there we saw it from the Wader Scrape Hide.
In reply to Alan:
Thanks Alan, just printed it off.
Hi Alan - I always like reading about what's around at Old Moor. Well done on the Black Necked Grebe - I've never seen one before - I'll have to keep up with the sightings to see whether this one is sticking around......Lovely photos of the Linnets too.
