Sorry for the lack of news over the last week; we've been struggling to get onto the reserve - and the lagoons have been mostly frozen, so there hasn't been a lot to report from there. We have had some great raptor sightings though, with a short-eared owl last Thursday lunchtime, three red kites on Friday, a merlin perched on the feeder post outside the coffee shop on Saturday, and a male hen harrier putting in an appearance on each of the last three days - we think that it's roosting on the reserve and then hunting along the estuary.
We have been able to get more of the car park open today, and the estuary track is open as far as the Foel Fras screen (the Benarth Hide is open). We have opened the trail through the wildlife garden as far as the Tal-y-fan Hide, but the rest of the trails are still very icy and so remain closed. The shop and coffee shop are open too, so come and grab yourself some Christmas goodies or come raptor-watching with a cappuccino!
