Marsh Fritillary Monitoring

Posted from Naomi Hewitt

Hello all,

If anyone is at a loose end this week and fancies some time out in the sun doing a worthwhile conservation task on the Solway, the Natural England North Cumbria NNR team are holding three days of volunteer marsh fritillary web counting. This is essential tasks to monitor populations of the marsh fritillary and determine how well they are doing on an annual basis.

Basically, it involves wandering around in the sun in a fantastic national nature reserve (or two) looking for caterpillars!

Please contact Colin Auld from the NE team if you are interested, or for more information. Colin can be contacted on email at colin.auld@naturalengland.gov.uk or by phone on 016973 50005. See his email below for details of what’s happening where and more details of each location and how to get there.

Many thanks

Naomi
