I found a batch of ten nocturnal moths on my lit window yesterday evening. They were about between 12 - 15mm wide. Any idea what they would be?

A quote from Hazel over on the Moth Thread
"Im officially on stike over the state of the new forum however I can never resist a moth! This looks like Winter moth Operophtera brumata & it's a male as the females are flightless & sit on tree trunks waiting for a man to pass by! "
In reply to Alan:
Many thanks to Hazel and Liz Still for confirmation ID. I did get a more definitive photo which also confirms this.
Thanks Alan for the suggestion.
In reply to John & Judith Rogers:
Received confirmation of Northern Winter Moth (Operophtera fagata) from Liz Still, I meant to say. A further image showed it to be paler and silkier and forewings more tapered than the Winter Moth. I have a damson orchard at the back of the house and the literature indicates that one of its larval foodplants are plum trees - so habitat would be right.
Judith
We don't get Operophtera fagata in our part of France but from the size & colour it looks like my local one! Well done to Liz for the correct ID.
Best wishes
