A fresh bright autumn walk in a beautiful landscape full of rustic charm. The car park was over flowing along the roadside but there was plenty of woodland to pass very few people. I did see one person who had walked off the footpath to get a closer look at the fungi and some had been smashed. Also a lot of dog poo was on the edge of the footpath which people had not picked up and taken to a bin, it had been marked with bright spray paint to highlight it. As this is such a popular site it would be a great venue for fundraising if there were toilets, I think it is very much worth having a visitor centre here.

Migrant Hawkers Mating 12th October 2014

I was surprised to see these Dragonflies still about in October and felt lucky to see this pair mating - even though they were partially obscured by the reeds at the edge of the decoy pond.

This Ruddy Darter was a bit battered, but is here showing the difference from the Common Darter - it is deeper red, especially around the mouth parts, has solid black legs and a club tail.

These tiny creatures stayed around the edges of the decoy pond mostly, clinging to grasses.

In late September 2014 there were still a lot of Southern Hawkers patrolling the decoy pond and bright apple green females hiding on the edges.

This is a female Migrant Hawker that I later saw mating in the decoy pond - I was surprised they were still about on 12th October!
