On Friday 25 March our archaeology consultant Chris Butler led a walk around the new History Trail. We were delighted that everyone who booked turned up and the group of 22 had the benefit of Chris's expert knowledge on a two-hour tour of the trail. Chris explained that the current interpretations of some of the features may change as they are studied in more detail and as the young pine clearance reveals more of the landscape hidden underneath. A recent edition of the local newspaper carried an article about the trail and the publicity seems to be working because the new leaflet is disappearing fast from the information board. Unfortunately the paper is continuing to report that our tank turret was discovered by the fire brigade while they were fighting a blaze in the reserve last summer. We have no idea where they got this idea from - the turret has been known about by locals for decades!
