Bempton Cliffs visit

Just had to add my experience of Bempton Cliffs. Visited 11 April. Managed to persuade my train mad son to arrange a visit there. So train to Hull, then a round robin ranger ticket which enabled us to stop at Bempton then travel up to Scarborough and return via York.

Bempton is everything you think it is going to be. The amount of birds (and this is only early on). The views and scenery. How close to the birds you are. We had several close encounters with Gannets near  Jubilee corner. Many times just peering over the cliff you were so close to them and they are so unperturbed by you.

But finally the jewel in the crown. I was a little dissapointed at not seeing a puffin. (I even had my new RSPB Puffin bins with me (though you could easily come here and not need them). Apparently there had been one or two around. We stood at the grandstand for the last 10 minutes before we had to leave. A woman next to us suddenly said to her son there was a puffin. Expecting to have to look through binoculars there was this Puffin almost right in front of us! Made my day. I think my son enjoyed it too.

An excellent visit. Recommended.

Forgot to add  that we were blessed with the weather. Grey clouds were around but amazingly stayed dry even until we had walked back to the station. Also its a fair walk but we managed it in just under 1/2 hour.(recommended time was 40 minutes so I think we did ok)
