Year 1 and Year 2 pupils at Bempton Primary School helped give nature a home at their local nature reserve.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs invited the children to lend a hand planting 100 aspen and 100 hawthorn saplings to help create and maintain boundary lines, along with a number of gorse and honeysuckle shrubs to enhance existing areas of greenery.

17 local school children braved the elements on a cold but sunny day to help…

  • RSPB Bempton Cliffs wins award against Yorkshire’s best

    Maria Prchlik

One of the RSPB’s best loved nature reserves has just received another accolade.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs picked up a Bronze at last week’s Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards – which meant some of the team swapping their fleeces for their finery for the evening.

The glittering ceremony, the largest celebration of tourism in the UK, took place at Leeds Arena with around 800 guests from the cream…

Will Scott, a volunteer at RSPB Bempton Cliffs, can usually be found spotting rare migrant birds on the East Yorkshire reserve.

But last week, it was his turn to be spotted – and given with an award from the National Biodiversity Network.

19 year old Will from Hunmanby, who’s in his second year at Lincoln University studying Ecology and Conservation, received his award as runner-up in the Young Person’s category…

    Maria Prchlik
    Maria Prchlik

What a week that was!  Our third year of taking part in the hugely popluar Filey and Flamborough migration festival was a resounding success.

Here's a short summary from our warden, Dave Aitken:

'Now well established, this was an incredibly successful event across all sites and a great deal of time, energy and enthusiasm went in by many individuals to deliver this excellent programme of events. Many people attended…

  • Inspiration strikes first time writer at Bempton Cliffs

    Maria Prchlik
    Maria Prchlik

Seeing a lonely puffin on the cliffs gave visitor Peter Corrigan from Essex an idea.

Why not write a story for children that would tell a puffin's tale?

So that's exactly what he did.

'I was struck by the excitement of the youngsters. I could hear them asking teachers, mums and dads, “Will we see the puffins and gannets?” As a 75 year-old grandad, it was wonderful to experience', said Peter.…

Pop into your local library or council customer information centre on Thursday, October 17, and you may be surprised to hear birds singing.

East Riding of Yorkshire council is working with the team at RSPB Bempton Cliffs by taking part in the charity’s latest initiative – a Birdsong Takeover.

Maria Prchlik, Communications Officer at RSPB Bempton Cliffs explained: ‘Imagine if there was no dawn chorus. Or no…
