There was a great turn out for our mid-week Nature on the Coast Walk. 13 hardy souls braved temperatures that felt positively arctic in a biting wind.
Most had visited the cliffs before but some were first timers. Either way, everyone was excited by the prospect of a ‘safari’ around three of the region’s top wildlife spots – Bempton Cliffs, Sewerby Hall’s woodland and Flamborough’s rock pools.
RSPB members, Ian and Mary McKenzie from Beverley felt this was a great chance to enjoy the outdoors and get to know the reserve they love a little better.
Brenda Thompson and husband Mike from Easingwold visit the reserve most years. Brenda is a huge puffin fan and has all kinds of puffin memorabilia – from Emma Bridgewater ceramics to tea-towels featuring her favourite bird.
And Terry and Trisha Herbert from Malton brought along Betty the Dog who relished the walk.
Volunteer leader, Allan Dawson, said each and every one of the group was buzzing with enthusiasm at the end of the day despite the bitter cold.
There are still two walks left this season, 27 Feb and 13 March. The cost is £16 including refreshments and a light lunch. For more details or to book call 01262 851179. Or visit our Events page.
