Good news for all walkers heading to the cliff tops. All one and half miles of the new trod has now been laid out and is ready for use.
So what's a trod? Well, there's a Monk's Trod in Wales that was a route used by Cistercian monks, while in the West Country a trod is a fairy pathway that may have the power to cure problems like rheumatism.
In our case, the trod is an informal footpath running alongside Cliff Lane, the route that links Bempton village with the reserve. And its purpose in this instance is to make access to the cliff tops for those on foot both safer and more enjoyable.
The all-weather path (here's the technical bit) comprises of a terran liner topped with 50ml of washed gravel. So it should stay weed free and not get churned up or become slippy in winter
The project has been joint-funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the RSPB both of whom are delighted with the newly surfaced route. So well done to the lads of PBS Construction for all their hard work.
If you plan on using Shank's pony to get to the reserve, let us know how the trod stands up.
Gavin digs in.
Adam checks all is good on the ground.
Nearly ready. The trod waiting to be rolled.
