Our cliff top location isn't the ideal terrain for less-able visitors. Which is why we've invested in a number of improvements aimed at making getting around easier for those with mobility difficulties.
A ramp now runs from the visitor centre down to the main path which has been re-surfaced. And this leads directly to one of the main viewpoints, giving wheelchair users a stunning views of the cliffs and the birds on them.
Here's what one recent visitor had to say:
I just wanted to thank everyone one there for the great welcome, and knowledgeable help we weregiven by the volunteers and RSPB workers at Bempton on Wednesday.
I was given helpful advice on access and managed to reach a number of viewpoints on my mobility scooter. The joy of being able to move around the cliff top, and observe the hundreds of birds and their chicks was fantastic.
The camera images , which could be seen in the Centre, were amazing too.
We had such an enjoyable time, and look forward to visiting again.
You’ll be pleased to hear, we were so impressed we have joined the RSPB!
If there are other ways we can help, please let us know. We can't promise to act on every suggestion, but we'll do our utmost to continue making the reserve accessible to all.
