A Crow joins the Osprey on the pole this evening
Clare: You're right of course. They are not stupid at all, but very much opportunistic. I suspect it was hoping for the same thing as us, that the Osprey would go fishing :-)
Sadly not to be that night.
Brilliant photo, Mark - crows aren't stupid, they just happen to not have any fear at all. Someone managed to get priceless footage of a crow nicking a fish from the Dyfi nest just after the first egg was laid - amazing!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
LindyLou: No haven't been following the project although I have heard of it. Just watched the video. It's great. It is a very odd sound isn't it.
Great photo :-)
While I was watching from Middlebere the other morning, a magpie made repeated visits to the pole to try and pick up the odd scrap from the osprey eating a fish. The osprey totally ignored it, but the magpie never had the courage to do more than stand there.
