Our Kestrels are now live on the Arne website! The female has been sitting on the eggs for 32 days so the first should hatch any time. She seems particularly restless today and sometimes you can even hear the chicks calling from the eggs. Who will be the first to see a hatched chick? It would be great to see everyones observations on this forum so we can keep updated with all the excitement! To see the webcam follow: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
Ooooh, thanks for the detail!! Almost glad I missed it! Still no sign of chick #4? Having to steal myself away to do something that some might consider productive!
Well I wish I had a kestrel's eye for sand lizards - I'd get a few more photos of the elusive little critters!
Grub's up! Calling between male and female. Female leaves, male steps in to brood. Little ones not being fed this time?
Change over time, Male back on nest, food pass outside of box so don't know what he brought in.
Male was in overdrive a bluetit for the chicks and a sand lizard for the mum. The he settled down for a few minutes rest in the nest. I bet he is looking forward to when she can go out hunting too!
Another blue tit being polished off!
Another vole brought in I think, a bit more difficult to tell on the smaller picture. She managed to feed all three chicks and then stored the rest in left hand corner by the entrance. she disappeared for a couple of minutes but has settled down again now.
Thank you for all the updates Michael. What a day to have a power cut! Well, I suppose no day is a good day to have one but ... when you haven't got a laptop ...! Back on now and caught up with all the news, so thank you again. Glad they're all doing ok! Still no chick#4 ...
Good Morning all!
Couldn't resist a sneaky peek before getting ready for work! Logged on to find breakfast already under way but didn't see what it was. After much concentrating on the one big merged fluff ball ... I'm still unsure whether there's 3 or 4 chicks!!! I THINK maybe 4 but they just wouldn't keep still for the head count! Doh!
First time here this weekend gone. What a privilege it is.
