Our Kestrels are now live on the Arne website! The female has been sitting on the eggs for 32 days so the first should hatch any time. She seems particularly restless today and sometimes you can even hear the chicks calling from the eggs. Who will be the first to see a hatched chick? It would be great to see everyones observations on this forum so we can keep updated with all the excitement! To see the webcam follow: http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/a/arne/webcam.aspx
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Robert - Kestrel life is all a bit of a learning curve for me.
So now 'we' have three! Fantastic. I so hope all the little mites make it.
Oh, sounds like feeding time ..
Was that a vole in the larder? Three little bobble heads! Maybe too early for the nest addition to have some?
Good Morning - That did look like another vole. Really good views of the third chick. It didnt look too interested in any food, but again like yesterday it will probably not need feeding for a few hours after hatching. And there are definately two eggs left to hatch! When will the next one be? Will be interesting to see if we have another afternoon hatching like yesterday.
I missed what he brought in then (was trying to put some washing on!) but think I saw a tiny feather in his beak? So maybe a small bird?
So, feed time again. He really is stepping up to the mark huh? And she's doing a great job shielding them from those winds today.
Yum, yum. Did the new one get a little scrap at the end that time?
Looked like another baby blue tit, didnt see if the newcomer got fed or not. The male didnt stay around long this time!
The female seems to be snacking on insects around the nest, hope it doesnt't spoil her appetite!
I wondered what she was doing, thought either that or just the housework! Which is more than me at the min!
Didn't see what he brought in then?
Another sand lizard (male) but not for the chicks this time, the female's taken it off for herself
More food for the chicks, didn't see what it was though although it may have been the blue tit stored from earlier. The youngest is relagated to the back at the momment although it is having a good try at getting food.
Need to revise my last comment, I can actually see a tail thrashing about, I think it is a lizard being eaten alive!
